Pilot Information
As a certificated pilot, you are in a great position to help our animal passengers begin their journey to a better life. In many cases, your offer to fly a mission is part of the reason our passengers are still alive. They need both a home to go to and a means to get there in order to avoid euthanasia at overcrowded shelters.

A great deal of satisfaction comes from the donation of your skills as a pilot and your willingness to help as both are precious gifts to these animals. In most cases, the sending and receiving organizations are not-for-profit 501(c)3 entities that are happy to provide participating pilots with tax letters acknowledging their charitable donations (expenses). Flying for Animal Rescue Flights is a great way to enjoy the priviledge of aviation at a discounted rate, and all for a worthy cause.

Getting the word out about ARF is just as important as flying missions. Do you have some friends who are pilots? Introduce them to ARF! As a pilot, you are familiar with airports and FBOs, and helping to recruit new pilots helps ARF rescue more animals. Please consider keeping some Animal Rescue Flights recruitment flyers in your plane, and the next time you fly for business or pleasure, see if the FBO at your destination has a message board where one can be posted. Most airport managers will be happy to make room.

Newspapers, magazines, radio, TV, and cable stations in your area might be interested in a news story about an Animal Rescue Flight in their area. Are you flying a mission for ARF and willing to be interviewed? Invite a news reporter to meet you at the airport. If it's a TV station or publication, there will be plenty of great video and pictures of the animals being rescued!

You can also ask a radio station if they would consider running our Public Service Announcement (PSA)...

Neal Boortz is a nationally syndicated talk show host, and a pilot, who was generous enough to record a Public Service Announcement (PSA) that is running on radio and internet to help recruit pilots for Animal Rescue Flights.

You can hear the PSA or download it here: Listen | Download

Share your story if you've done an animal rescue flight. You know how great it feels to use your skills to help animals, so why not write a paragraph or two describing what your flight was like and how you felt. Many newspapers and magazines are looking for fun, upbeat stories, and stories about flying animals to safety are unique and compelling. Look for a local publication and let them know you have a story. There might be a picture of your ARF activity in our ARF Photo Gallery. Editors like stories even better when pictures are available.

If you want to go to the top and are a member of AOPA (Aircraft Owner and Pilots Association), contact AOPA Pilot magazine with your story and a picture! General Aviation is under a lot of scruitiny with threats of new fees and more restrictions. AOPA has been the leading voice for the interests of pilots for years and they can always use more evidence of how General Aviation is being used for more than $100 hamburger flights!
